On June 8th the Karavane No Border Festival made it’s appearance, in cooperation with the Buurtwinkel Anneessens and ASBL Comète, on the Anneessensplein in Brussels.
Les Tambours de l’Amour started with some solid samba that tempted a lot of people from the neighbourhood.
Immediately after we were treated with a battle theatre by the collective B.A.-MEMS(E) and two representatives from the European Commission and the Frontex agency. They were bringing us only good news. Every year the budget of Frontex is doubled and the agency has at it’s disposal more and more wonderful vessels, helicopters and the best surveillance technology to arrest and deport unwanted migrants back to their country.
Subsequently films were projected in the tent of the mobile cinema, on it’s way back from the Karawanefestival in Jena and on it’s way to Lille and Calais. First we watched "Une girafe sous la pluie", an animation film by Pascale Hecquet. The mobilisation video couldn’t be missed and then we watched "Le festival Pan-Africain d’ Alger" by William Klein and a film about the Noborder camp in Calais.
Meanwhile many people were silk-screening t-shirts and making fruit-juices.
Les Tambours de l’Amour concluded the evening with the last ruffle of drums.
